The fear of COVID-19 and pleasure for sin

By 'Gbenga Bankole

One of the most popular names or topics in the last couple of months is Coronavirus, no thanks to how the disease has claimed many lives across the globe. The disease has not only affected economic growth of every nation, but has also affected churches and mosques. Till now most worship centers in Nigeria are still under lock and key.

The rate at which people fear the disease (in the name of taking precautions) cannot be overemphasized. Almost everyone has either facemask or hand sanitiser. No doubt, it is good to take precautionary measures and follow the guidelines given by government, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control or medical practitioners. However, it must be noted that sin is more dangerous and deadlier than COVID-19.

It would have been good and God would have been more glorified if the whole world could take precaution when it comes to sin. If we had all given as much attention to sin or ungodliness as we have to COVID-19,
Heaven would be happy.

God will be happy if we can all "stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace." (Ephesians 6:14-15).

Let us start living our lives in consciousness of the second coming of Christ. We should fear and run away from sin, than we are doing to COVID-19. Definitely, one day, you will die, whether you're killed by COVID-19 or not. The big question is, where will you spend your eternity?

Some of those who died of COVID-19 can still make it to the kingdom of God if they had lived for Christ while on earth, but what is the essence of you and I being alive without living for Christ?

This is a call for repentance and genuine revival. May the Lord help your decision to turn from your sinful ways to righteousness and godliness in Jesus' name.
