It was Indeed an evening of jubilation, singing and dancing at the 16th year celebration of Hymns and Anthems at Christ Apostolic Church, Mount of Joy District, Ijeshatedo, Lagos State.
The programme is an annual interdenominational mass choir concert which is always hosted by the District Choir (Voice of Joy Choir) on every 2nd Sunday in June
The programme had in attendance the District Superintendent, Pastor M.O. Balogun and his Curate, Irapada District Superintendent, Pastor Sam Akinsulure, invited churches from different Districts and denominations ministered in classical, contemporary, medley, traditional, jazz and folks.
Pastor Sam Akinsulure, the District Superintendent, Irapada District gave exhortation on the topic, "The love of God" and text taken from 1 John 4:9-10
According to him, the love of God to man started before He created man.
God created the earth because of man and as a property of man to have dominion over it.
"God created man because He wants him to rule over the Earth (Gen 1: 26).
We were not created to worship God because he has thousands of angels worshipping Him everyday, we were created to have dominion over the things He had created", he said.
According to him we can only praise and worship Him because of His kindness and love over us but that is not the main reason we were created.
He further attested that ever since man had rebelled against God in the garden of Eden, the relationship between man and God was not there anymore and that was why he had to send His only begotten Son (Jesus) to bring us back to Him.
"Angels can never save us because they are just messengers, that is why God sent Jesus to save us from destruction, curse and tormentors that want to destroy our life," he said.
"Our righteousness cannot take us to the kingdom of God because the Bible says it is like filthy rags, the only thing that can save us is to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior because He is the access to the Kingdom of God. We have only three days in life, yesterday, today and tomorrow. We do not know what will happen tomorrow that is why we need to check our lives properly so as not to miss His Kingdom," he concluded.
