The Regional Superintendent of Babalola Region, Pastor G. S. Dada, has cautioned Christians to beware of false teachers and prophets as he delivered the first lecture at the ongoing 2026 Odo Owa Annual Revival holding at Babalola Prayer Mountain.
Preaching from 2 Peter 2:1 on the topic “Beware of False Teachers”, Pastor Dada affirmed the reality of false teachers in contemporary times, stressing that their presence is not merely a biblical history but a present danger to the Church.
“There are more false teachers today than false prophets. While true teachers are called to proclaim the undiluted truth of the gospel, false teachers preach messages that contradict God’s Word for personal gain,” he noted.
He described heresy as a subtle but cruel act, warning that nothing is more wicked than claiming to speak for God while distorting the gospel.
“When you think of cruelty, you probably think of terrorist. You never think as a christian that heresies is cruelty. Nothing is more wicked for someone to claim to speak for God about the gospel where in the real sense they speak for the devil,” he explained.
“Heresy is cruel, it destroys life now and in eternity. Those who promote heresy are the ultimate terrorists we have in our world today,” he added.
He emphasized that to “beware” means to be vigilant against individuals whose teachings pose spiritual danger.
Pastor Dada stated that false teachers often operate from within the Church, referencing Acts 20:29–30, where the Apostle Paul warned that grievous wolves would arise among believers to mislead the flock.
He explained that such teachers are driven by covetousness, merchandising the gospel for selfish interests and introducing destructive doctrines subtly.
“They add to the Word of God and teach what suits them and what people want to hear,” he said.
Highlighting key indicators of false teaching, he noted that any minister who neglects core doctrines such as the humanity and divinity of Christ, the virgin birth, atonement, death, bodily resurrection, ascension, and the second coming of Jesus Christ, while focusing solely on material prosperity, should be carefully examined.
He stressed the need for sound doctrine and discernment among believers.
Citing Matthew 7:15, Pastor Dada reminded the congregation that Jesus Himself warned against false prophets who appear harmless but are inwardly destructive.
He added that such individuals often appear influential and materially successful, living lavish lifestyles while exploiting congregants. However, he affirmed that their end, according to Scripture, is destruction and divine judgment.
He further warned that false teachers deny the Lordship of Christ by encouraging people to profess faith without obedience.
“They introduce people to themselves instead of introducing them to Jesus,” he said, “They dishonor God even when they claim they discover God. They say God is good all the time while denying judgement that is why they do not caution about sin,” he added.
Calling for self-examination, Pastor Dada admonished any minister engaging in manipulative practices to repent and return to genuine gospel ministry.
He concluded by charging believers to remain spiritually alert, grounded in Scripture, and unwavering in their commitment to biblical truth throughout the revival and beyond.
Following the insightful teaching, the regional superintendent led the congregation in a powerful prayer session also in line with the teaching.
The revival, currently in its fourth day as of February 26, has drawn believers from across Kwara State and beyond, with attendees coming from neighbouring states and countries.
