Don’t win the world and wound your family, Pastor Gbuyiro urges ministers at CAC Mokola DCC Couples’ Banquet

The 2025 Couples’ Banquet organized by the Ministers’ Wives Fellowship of Christ Apostolic Church, Mokola Districts’ Coordinating Council (DCC), Ibadan, provided a moment for reflection, renewal, and revelation for ministers and their spouses.

The well-attended event, themed “Leading from the Home Front: Joshua a Case Study,” aimed to strengthen marriages, foster unity in ministry homes, and reemphasize the significance of godly leadership originating from the family. The programme featured a heartwarming gift presentation from the ministers to their wives, a delightful couples' dance, engaging games, a meaningful share and care segment, and intimate couples' prayers.

The Chairperson of CAC Mokola DCC Ministers’ Wives Fellowship and wife of the DCC Superintendent, Mrs. E. O. Gbuyiro, welcomed participants with gratitude and described the gathering as “the Lord’s doing, and it is marvelous in our sight.”

As a first-time participant since her husband’s resumption as DCC Superintendent, Mrs. Gbuyiro expressed appreciation for God, her husband, and the unwavering support of ministers’ wives.

She encouraged all present to use the banquet as an opportunity to “recharge, refocus, and learn from Joshua’s exemplary leadership,” drawing inspiration from Joshua 24:15 and urging couples to build strong, God-fearing homes that make a positive impact in their communities.

The banquet coordinator, Pastor J. O. Oyedeji, and the planning committee were commended for their commitment and dedication to organizing the program.

Delivering the keynote lecture, DCC Superintendent of CAC Mokola DCC, Pastor Samson O. Gbuyiro, delivered a compelling message titled “Leading from the Home Front: Joshua a Case Study,” referencing Joshua 24:15 and Judges 2:7-8.

He emphasized that true leadership and ministry must begin at home. “When a leader puts his family first, the church benefits, but when he puts the ministry first, both the family and the church suffer,” he cautioned.

Pastor Gbuyiro warned against neglecting family in pursuit of ministry accomplishments: “Save the world, fulfill the assignment, but not at the detriment of your family. Don’t win the world and wound your family.”

He stressed that leadership is best conceived and nurtured within the family, noting, “If the truth we know and the faith we confess don’t work at home, it can’t work in ministry.”

According to Pastor Gbuyiro, understanding and meeting the needs of one’s spouse is crucial for a thriving home. He explained, “Marriage is needs-oriented, not just a performance of duties,” affirming that peace and joy flourish when needs are met.

He identified key needs for wives—protection, affection, attention, communication, provision, and appreciation—and for husbands—respect, sexual satisfaction, good character, and ministry support.

Quoting Ephesians 5:33, he called on wives to respect their husbands in obedience to God, and on husbands to love their wives as Christ loves the Church.

Pastor Gbuyiro further highlighted the importance of intimacy and open communication as essential for sustaining unity and joy in marriage. Concluding, he reiterated that a minister’s greatest testimony begins at home: “Who you are at home is much more important to God than who you are elsewhere. Your true identity is best expressed in your home.”

The banquet concluded with moments of fellowship, joy, and renewed commitment among ministers and their spouses to prioritize family life while fulfilling their divine assignments.
