An assembly of Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Ayo 2, Gulubi, Sokoto State was set on fire by Islamic extremists protesting against the arrest of the murderers of Deborah Yakubu.

Deborah, the young lady who was studying at Shehu Shagari College of Education, Sokoto was beaten to death and her remains burnt by Muslim extremists for alleged blasphemy.

Report said that the leader of the mob who announced himself as the one who led the mob that murdered the lady was arrested by the police. But his co-extremists have since gone on rampage burning and destroying any church property, building, chairs and other furniture found in the churches.

Confirming the incident to our Correspondent, the Assembly Pastor of CAC Oke-Ayo 2, Gulubi, Pastor Samuel Obasanya said the incident happened around 12 noon on Saturday, May 14, 2022.

He stressed they had a vigil on Friday night and on Saturday morning he went out with his family.

The Cleric further explained that: "information got to us where we were that some people are already in the church destroying the building. We have to hide ourselves because we gathered that they were looking for us in the mission house to kill us. They destroyed and burnt the church. They also came back on Saturday night to cart away some valuable things. There was nothing left for us when we camp back."

When asked if Christian Association of Nigeria has been briefed about the incident, Pastor Obasanya said: "my District Superintendent told me that Christian Association of Nigeria has ordered us to do the estimation of everything lost and also look for Valuer who will do the valuation of the properties burnt."
