The Special Assistant to the President of CAC Nigeria and Overseas, Pastor T.D. Asokeji has urged leaders at different levels on the need to develop godly character, saying that leadership is 90 percent character and 10 percent competence.

Pastor Asokeji stated this on Tuesday January 25, 2022 at the second batch of the ongoing Pastors' Leadership Retreat for Director of Christian Education, Director of Music, Director of Publicity, Director of Youth Affairs, Vice Chancellor and Registrar of JABU, Chairman of Research & Development, Provost of CACTS, Coordinators of CACTS Satellite Campuses/ Faith Home Ede, Assistant Director of Missions, Assistant Director of Music, Assistant Director of Youth Affairs, Marketing Officer, Chairman of Investment Committee, Chairman of CAC Press, Chairman of CAC Television, etc.

The Cleric noted that character includes integrity, honesty, congruence, humility and courage.

"If you can't lead yourself, you can't lead others. If you're a leader and your subordinates are not doing more than you, you're not a leader," he said.

He also said leadership takes ownership and the direct definition of leadership means influence.

Pastor Asokeji stated that if you want to be a successful leader you must understand the fierceness of your environment and harshness of your competitor.

According to him, effective leadership defines core purpose which are mission (reason for being), vision (long term goal) and shared values (code of conduct).

While canvassing for empowerment of team members, the Cleric said this should be done through building competence (training/development, tools required for role performance), building character (have values and uphold them, promote equity/fairness) and provide enabling environment (physical and psychological).
