"Beware of the Perilous Time.…a timely warning" by Pastor Ogunbayeje

Pastor Gabriel Ogunbayeje

“But know that in the last days perilous time will come. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the form of godliness but denying its power.” 2 Timothy 3:1-5.

Knowledge is power; it is also a shield that protects from invasion and attacks of different kinds.  It informs and helps us to know what we need to do and what we should not do. Things that happen around the world are no more news to those who know that we are at the end of the age as the Bible has predicted. But unfortunately, not everybody takes note of these events; we sometimes even laugh at these events and become indifferent seeing them as normal.

Is there anything called sin anymore in the world today? Is there anything immoral these days? We live in the world where things that used to be sinful are no more considered as sin. We live in the age where sinfulness is maturity or civilisation. We live in time when sinfulness is much more tolerated and celebrated. Things that used to cause the eye brow to be raised are no more sneered at rather they are the things that are in trend; they are becoming normal and those who do them are becoming celebrated while those who sneered at sinfulness are looked at disdainfully or considered weird; they are even labelled ‘outdated’ by some Christians.

Everything is turned upside down and inside out- Bible not excluded.  Laws of some countries even back up sinfulness while the righteous ones are handicapped. Sin is celebrated and holiness is despised- even by some so-called believers. Ungodly living is celebrated and commended while godliness is considered as foolishness. What could be wrong?

The world is losing its grip on the truth of the word of God. It is drifting quickly away from its maker rather than drawing closer to Him- yet the want to enjoy His blessings. Even the church that is supposed to be the light of the world is losing her grip to the deceit of the devil. Not all Christians are like the sons of Issachar who understand the time. Not all Christians ponder; not all understand and not all that understand do what should be done (rather than being sober, some people laugh over it). Not all people (even Christians) understand that the world is gradually drifting to its end; the clock is ticking to the midnight 2 Peter 3:10-11. And very sad, Satan is happy about this. The more people are ignorant or indifferent to this truth, the happier he is. The more people live in sin and worldliness, the best for him. He hates the Church, he hates the saints because he knows the glory awaiting them, he loves the sinners because he knows the doom awaiting them, and he also knows the doom that awaits him.

We must not be ignorant of the activities of the last days. Some of these as enumerated in 2 Timothy 3: 1-3, 1 Timothy 4:1-3, and 2 Timothy 4: 3 are: self -love, love of money, boasting, pride, blaspheming, disobedient to parents, ungratefulness, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slander, lack of self- control, brutality, despising good things, stubbornness, love of pleasure, than God, wrong form of godliness, departure from faith and believing false doctrine and teachers etc.  And unfortunately, some people are already victims while many will still be.  But this is not supposed to be. Is there any solution at all? Yes. Thanks to God, who always have solution to all the problems of the world.

What then should we do? We must:

1. Acknowledge our sins and have genuine repentance 2 Chronicles 7:14

2. Study the word of God so as not to be deceived by wrong teachers with wrong doctrines Hebrews 3:13.

3. Daily ask for the Holy Spirit guidance. John 14:16

4.Be careful in all things- 2 Timothy 4:6

5. Rejoice in the hope of our salvation and daily look forward towards it. 2 Peter 3:13-14

6. Not worry or anxious over anything because this is one of the reasons why people fall in to various temptations. Matthew 6:34.

7. Not grow weary in doing good and what is right Galatians 6:9, 2 Timothy 2:12

8. Live a holy life, refuse to follow the multitude to do evil and refuse to be influenced negatively or to be deceived 2 Timothy 2:19.

9. Be prayerful at all times and over everything. Philippians 4:6-7

10. Be encouraged in the Lord and refusing to let go of the true word of God. Hebrew 12:2-4.

11. Preach the undiluted word of God to others so that they can know the truth 2 Timothy 4:2 etc.

In conclusion, if there is anything that is true and real than the sun and the moon or anything visible to the eyes, it is the word of God. It is true that Jesus will come again, how prepared are we for this time? Let us seek the kingdom of God more than ever because the second coming of the Lord Jesus is closer than ever.
