It was a congregation of missionaries at Christ Apostolic Church, All Saints Chapel, Ibadan on Thursday, September 19, 2024 upon the commencement of the 3-day Conference of CAC Missions Conference themed "Missionaries and Spiritual Power" from the text Luke 10:19.
Addressing the large receptive gospel emissaries at a programme organised by the Directorate of CAC Missions, the CAC Director of Missions, Pastor Caxton S. Fasuyi, who described missionaries as having deep passion for lost souls and long to share Christ with them, warned the ministers not to be naive, nonchalant or ignorant about the demonic activities that could be faced, citing examples abounding on different mission fields.
Acknowledging the blessedness and privilege to be missionaries who are dedicated to God's work and missionary assignment, Pastor Fasuyi charged on the need to know and understand their enemy to discern his tactics and strategies.
"The same is true for believers and especially missionaries; this will help protect us or not expose us to unnecessary dangers and could lead to fighting each other instead of the real enemy," he said.
The cleric explained that Jesus, when preparing His disciples for their future ministry, gave them specific instruction about the help of the Holy Spirit as Christian missionaries, citing that the Holy Spirit "enabled them to speak the word of God boldly; enabled them to die fearlessly as martyrs; inspired the mission of the early church; gave them courage to confront sin and evil; filled the with joy even in the face of persecution" and so on.
According to him, "when we engage in spiritual warfare and we come against the enemy in our strength or wisdom, we will fall. This is why missionaries need to be spiritually empowered."
"Therefore, I admonish us that as we engage in learning, discussions and fellowship, let us open our hearts up for greater inspirations, new insights and spiritual empowerment that will strengthen the bonds that make our mission assignments stronger and more fruitful."
The CAC Missions Director concluded his welcome address with the words of Elder Jeffery R. Holland, "wise are the missionaries who understand that preaching of the gospel is not a cultural extravaganza or a tantalizing tourist trip."
Major highpoints of the first day of the conference were Presidential Address by CAC President, Pastor Samuel O. Oladele, welcome address by Missions Director, Pastor Fasuyi, first lecture by President of The Men of Issachar Vision Incorporated, Rev. Samson Ajetomobi, represented by his wife, Rev. (Mrs.) Stella Ajetomobi, music ministration by Ayan Jesus and many others.
