Text: Romans 8:35-39; Joshua 24:15-17; Ephesians 6:10-18
Introduction:Many people and countries were confused when the unexpected happening came upon the whole world on December, 2019.
The world powerful countries become powerless and the wisdom of the world turned to foolishness just because they cannot proffer solution to the deadly disease called Corona virus.
At this point, many are loosing their faith in Christ while some are dangling into ungodly characters due to the hardships caused by this pandemic. It is now necessary to admonish ourselves as a body of Christ at this perilous time which had been prophesied in the book of 2Timothy 3:1 about 2000 years ago.
What is Covid 19? This is a dangerous and deadly disease known as Corona Virus. It travels very fast in spreading than any other disease and unfortunately not curable.
This deadly virus was invented in a town called Wuhan in China in December 2019. It began to spread to other countries since then and penetrated into Nigeria on 27th February, 2020.
Faith: This is the process of forming or understanding abstractions, ideas, or beliefs, without empirical evidence, experience or observation.
According to the book of Hebrews 11:1, It is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Effect of Covid 19 on our faith:
1. Lukewarmness: This has creeped into some Christians' lives most especially the 'Bread and Butter Christians'
2. Relying on social media than the Bible: It is a pity that some Christians are not interested in the Holy Book again because of different philosophical, idealogical and psychological articles and messages which many sweet sayers are posting on the social media such as Whatsapp, Facebook, Tweetter, Youtube, Instagram, etc. every day.
3. Immoral behaviours become order of the day: At this time, some Christian have involved themselves in contrary and ungodly behavours just because there is no physical and interractive messages to control and caution them.
4. The Church of God was ridiculed by the Nigeria government: Unfortunately, our government behaved irrationally by closing down the churches instead of asking the church to pray to God to cure this deadly disease.
Presently now in Lagos, the hotels are opened while the Church of God remains closed.
Conclusion: Let every Christian wake up at this time and determine to serve God more than before because, God intentionally allowed this to happen, to proof Himself as God and Lord over every creatures and to prepare all Christians for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
Eph. 6:10-18
10. Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15. And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16. Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18. Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.
I pray that God in His infinite mercy will see us through this Covid 19 era and it will not terminate our Christian journey/race in Jesus name.
