As a music director you must have a profound knowledge of music and acquire analytical skills. As a music director, you are the one delivering the music for your church. You must be able to define and have a clear idea of the type of music you into. You don't have a choir if your choir cannot read music," the Head of Department, Department of Music, Mountain Top University, Dr. Damope Oluranti has told Music Directors.

Dr. Damope stated that Choir Directors must ensure they know their music before coming for the rehearsal, saying that if you have a choir where everybody reads music, you won't ever waste time in rehearsals.

The musicologist stated this on Thursday July 25th, 2019 at the just concluded 2019 Music Ministers' Conference organized by the Music Directorate of Christ Apostolic Church, Worldwide.

He advised Music Director that they should come out with vision, statement of purpose for their choir in black and white, adding that: "make sure you look at things to details and come out with a budget to support your plan then seek audience with the church authority."

"As church musicians we are minister, the onus is on us to lead your congregation in worship. Music is not entertainment, it doesn't need to be complicated. In organising your performances, it is always good to plan ahead, have a plan that will guide you through the  year," Dr. Damope said.
