By Olushola Adeola

"Christ Apostolic Church is a Holy Spirit driven church as it was laid down through the leading of the Holy Spirit, hence, it must not be replaced with anything," says the Superintendent, Christ Apostolic Church, Apapa Districts Coordinating Council (DCC), Pastor J.O Igbokwe.

Pastor Igbokwe made this known on Saturday June 29, 2019 while ministering on the topic “Ministry of Elders and Deaconesses in the Contemporary Church" at the 2019 Elders and Deaconesses Refresher Course organized by CAC Ikorodu DCC, Ikorodu, Lagos.

Explaining the appointment of officers in the church, the clergy said “the appointment of officers to the position in the church is a spiritual exercise which must be clearly explained to the persons who are willing to come to office."

He said because of civilization, garri and sand have mixed together and it is very difficult to separate, saying that “Christianity is not what human reasoning would comprehend. Religion makes it easy for the devil to operate, because it will make you to judge things as they appear physically. The devil can teach the bible from Genesis to Revelation correctly, yet he is a devil."

According to him, the contemporary church is a very complex institution where so many things are competing and conflicting, adding that only the Holy Spirit can lead the children of God to victory.

Highlighting the ministry of Deaconess in the church, pastor Igbokwe said that they should always avoid anything that will make them clash with the church policy, noting that Church administration is not necessarily democratic, there are areas under theocracy”.

He implored the Deaconesses to be spiritually minded, and never to work for applause as human praise may diminish their reward.

While stating the duties of the elders in the church, he said “elders should serve as management body of the assembly without prejudice to the fact that all his decisions shall be advisory."

He charged the elders to always protect the image of the church and assist the ministers of God to fulfill their God given vision.

In his concluding statement, he said “count it a thing of joy that despite your limitations, limited education, limited social status and limited understanding of the scriptures, yet you are considered to be in this wonderful position."
